Raghu Dixit Concert @ Yuva Dasara

How many singers/musicians who are 1 album and 1 movie old can you think of who not only deserve an evening in Dasara, but also can make the audience go crazy with their music? Now that I am struggling to come out with a second name, I am telling you the first name - Raghu Dixit! I love Raghu Dixit's music. I have listened to his music before his "Psycho" became such a smash hit. Much before he was spotted by Vishal-Shekhar. Much much before he was on Orkut, Facebook or Twitter. More than 3 years back, Setty had send me the link of a song. I was simply mesmerized by the music. The musician was Raghu Dixit and the song was "Gudugudiya". I had played it a few hundred times in the next few days. I remembered all these things as I was getting ready to go to the Yuva Dasara concert. I was just hoping the rain Gods would skip being spoilsport, to which they eventually obliged. Even at 5.30 PM, there was a sizable crowd, indicating that by the time the concert starts, ...

Joshua Kadison - Jessie

There has been silence on this blog for too long. So I am posting a favorite song of mine. I personally love songs that narrate a short story, may be that is the reason why country songs and bhaavageethe appeal to me. Joshua Kadison's singing perfectly complements the lovely lyrics. Priceless!

Gulaal Music

The music of "Gulaal" is one of the best that has come out of Bollywood off late. I dont remember an album in the recent history in which I had loved all the songs so intensely. Each and every song is a gem! If only the movie was as good as the music... The sad thing is, I will be least surprised if I dont hear the names Piyush Mishra, Rekha Bharadwaj or Rahul Ram in this year's award functions in music or lyrics category. That is how Bollywood is supposed to be, right? You can listen to the songs here: http://mp3hungama.com/music/index.php?action=album&id=4209 I am so bowled over by this album, I can go on and make a statement that if downloading mp3s were illegal in India, I would have run to the nearest music store and bought this album. Now, I will get back to listening the songs that are running in repeat mode. Ranaji mhaare...

What Would Freud Say?

"Araluthiru Jeevada Geleya ... Snehadaa Sinchanadalli ... " (Blossom O Dear Friend...In The Sprinkle Of Friendship) Shreya Goshal has been singing this song for more than a hundred times at least, in my ipod from the past few weeks. I am simply in love with this song. Easily the best song from " Mungaaru MaLe ". Perfect song for a morning travel. I don't like Shreya Goshal in general (she reminds me of Aishwarya Rai!) but the way she has sung this song is divine. Jayanth Kaaykini's lyrics is superb (when was the last time I heard a song with good lyrics?) and the orchestrization is amazing (guitars, drums and sax used very intelligently) Many of the guys whom I talked to have agreed this was the best song from " Mungaaru MaLe ". But, I was surprised to know that an overwhelmingly higher percentage of girls liked the Sonu Nigam version of the same song " Anisuthide ". I just asked myself "What would Freud say?" (the new slogan...

My first country song - Volcano Girl!

December 2002. It was when a lot of people were quitting the company where I was working. Everyday somebody used to come to my cubicle and say "Today is my last day...I have not yet decided where to join...well, keep in touch" Then, I think I had the concept in the back of my mind. While I was listening to some country song, I just happened to utter the line "Admiration's the name of the feeling that I had". I thought for a while and the second stanza was ready. By evening, I was done with the whole song (including the tune!) Until late 2004, nobody was even aware of the existence of this song! One evening, there was power cut at my home and I recorded this song in my mobile out of sheer boredom (which I had intended to delete later and forgot!). My brother listened to the song the same weekend, when he was looking at my mobile and he kind of liked it. Even a few of his friends and some of my colleagues heard it and they also liked it. Finally, I developed great...

Chennai and the visa interview

I had heard a lot about Chennai (mostly bad things!), but never been there before. As I reached there, I realized how true they were. If Bangalore is the 'hot and happening' city in India, Chennai was just 'hot'! Chennai looked a cool 10 years behind Bangalore - the railway station, the flyovers, the autos, the buses - everything looked so 1990ish. I checked into one of the better looking hotels in Wall Tax Road. But, the hotel room did not have any towels. "No towelz. Khatam vogaya saar. Paisa do. Main tumko laatha", was the reply I got from the receptionist. Even the lift there had a major bug. It would go from ground floor to fifth floor properly, but while coming down, I had to walk down to fourth floor and take the lift from there to ground floor! By afternoon, I took an auto and reached the visa consulate. As I was walking towards the consulate office, a policeman near the gate asked me, "Do you have mobile or any electronic devices?" "Yes...

She!

As I held her, I was ecstatic! I always had a dream of having someone like her in my life, long before I even knew about her existence. And today, we had met. Our union, though delayed, was inevitable. She was fair and slim, exactly as I had seen her in the pictures. Somehow, she seemed broad for her height, though it suited her! She was too cool, as if she was unaware of her own greatness. What attracted me most was not her gorgeous looks, but her capability. I fell madly in love with her as she started singing songs for me, which she will continue doing for a long time. She was my iPod! The romance had just begun!
