Random Scribblings From The Flight

Why dont the Lufthansa air hostesses smile? They seem too unfriendly, too cold. Its okay if Indians dont smile, we are used to it. Any others, we expect a smile, even a very fake one. Their entertainment facilities suck! There is a common TV on which we have to watch the movie being played. And why oh why are they so costly? I hate the Frankfurt airport too, it looks too hostile. I guess visiting Singapore raises the expectation too much. Not every airport is Changi!

I observed that the seat numbers in a row are listed A-B-C, D-E-F-G, H-J-K. There was no "I". I remember noticing this in other aircrafts as well. Not sure what the funda behind this is. Any idea?

When I asked for Asian Veg meals, I was told that it was over. I thought of taking a salmon meal and eat everything else except the main item. But, then the air hostess asked me if I am okay with a "Hindu meal". That was the first time I had heard something like that. What has a food got to do with religion? Do they even have veg meal of other religions? Does "Hindu meal" include kosambari and puliyogre, I wondered. I was disappointed for expecting too much - I had to settle just with jeera rice and payasa.

Why is it that all females who give instructions in hindi have a nasal tone? Any airline, any lady - it has to be nasal. "Krupya dhyaan de...vimaan ab udne ke liye tayyaar hai...apni kursi ki peti baandh le" Have you ever heard this in a non-nasal tone?

I have flown Lufthansa only once during the SARS scare, and the service sucks. The air hostesses were rude, even!

When one flies SA, one would actually like to spend some time in the beautiful Changi airport, but who would want to spend time and money at smelly Frankfurt airport?

Lufthansa - Argh! I hated the experience the only one time I had it. I think Germans are as snobbish as everyone says they are.

HEHEHE.. now that you say I would not try Luftansa at ALL ;)
Bithawk, that's the problem with flying on Singapore Air or any of the other Asian airlines. They raise your expectations too much. At least be thankful that you didn't fly on United, which is Lufthansa's codeshare partner. The service on United would make Lufthansa seem like a charter jet.

The reason there is no I is because it would get confused with a 1.

Re. the veg meal, other types of veg meals are a 'plain' vegetarian meal (i.e. what an American vegetarian would eat), or a vegan meal (no dairy).

awesome one!

I would like to say:

Same is the case with indian airlines, I was fyling to Kumarakom, I found out that seat reservations had overlapped. I mean , two or more passengers were alloted same seat numbers (luckily I was not in that list). Finally passengers were asked to pick a seat of their choice.

I feel these blunders happen, because they don;t know/(give least importance) to how to use the facilities provided by the techonology, or they are bored of their redundant jobs.

Secondly, I was told by my friend that Hinduism is a culture and not a religion. I was happy when my friend said that. I felt that am a free bird not bound to any specific religion. Now I am getting confused.

A long time ago (in my student days) I flew in an Airline called Sabena (Belgian Airline).. Luft was Singapore Airlines in comparison.

I agree with BPSK, the Asian carriers like SQ set your expectations high.

I haven't flown Jet Airways on an International leg.. wonder how the service is...

What Exactly Bothered You?

I am amazed by the display of naivete by people, their naivete so deeply conditioned that it ceases to be artificial. These people are very well aware of the reality, but when you show them some proof to confirm that, they are aghast and shocked. What the hell am I ranting about? I am talking about "The curious case of N D Tiwari"! To be honest, when I heard about it, I laughed out loud. Not because there was something funny in his achievements, but the way people reacted to it. So I am trying to understand what exactly bothered them? A Governor was doing 'it' ? ('It' upsets more people than lets say, if he was taking a bribe of crores of rupees from those 3 women) A Governor was doing 'it'? (Come on seriously, are we not taught in schools that politicians work for people and poverty is dropping like Walmart prices?) A Governor was caught doing it? (What is revealed is always only the tip of the iceberg. Just imagine the uncaught! Is it the "env...

Ringtones

Why is it that most people don't keep their mobiles in silent mode, in general and particularly in meetings, movie halls, theaters and concerts? Why is it that people who hate silent mode, don't ever use "Increasing ring" feature? Why do such people use very loud ring tones? Why is it that most people use a very common ring tone and it takes them eternity to pick calls? (Yes, they don't even realize that its their mobile that is ringing!) Why is it that people with the most irritating ring tones are the ones who get calls very regularly? Why is it that most of the ring tones are monotonic? (Don't you think polyphonic ring tones are so less irritating on the ears?) Why is it that people so frequently use the default Nokia monotonic ring tone or a badly played version of Malgudi Days? Why have I never heard a nice polyphonic ring tone of Hotel California or Pulp Fiction theme or something? Why?

Limitations Of Human Imagination

I watched the movie "The Abyss" yesterday. Unadulterated hollywood alien-sci-fi garbage. Pseudo-emotions mixed with american-arrogance, so much crap that it would have given Karan Johar some serious inferiority complex. But, this made me think why so many alien stories are so similar. Lets come to the assumptions in the alien movies: 1) Aliens always love to make contact with the humans (If I were an alien, I would try to make contact with crocodiles - much more interesting, right?) 2) Aliens are generally much more intelligent than humans (Its hard to beat the dumbness of humans - probably aliens don't watch Big Boss! Also, since 'they' contact us by reaching 'our' planet, they must be better than us!) 3) Aliens by default understand or learn English (by intercepting the cerebral signals and interpreting with the aural waves and decoding to hexadecimal system - you will be given some such nonsense by the story writers) If you tell the aliens "howdy...
